Spiritual Guidance for 2024- Part 2
This is the second card in the series for 2024 Spiritual Guidance. Please start with the last entry as it leads into this next concept. Hummingbird’s medicine is the medicine of joy, beauty and sweetness. Hummingbird darts from one flower to another, tasting the sweetness of the nectar. She can fly up, down, backward and forward in a snap. What’s important to note about this medicine- it is fragile. When there is discord or disharmony, she quickly flies away.
How does this tie into the first card, and Spider’s message of all things being connected? Well, Hummingbird had one very specific characteristic that is both beautiful and heartbreaking- if she is caged, caught or imprisoned, she will die. If the right environment is crucial to our survival, and all of creation is connected, that means the harm done to one or the brokenness of any thread reverberates throughout the web of connection.
Spirit’s message here is that the state of our environment that can nurture or destroy us. This is the message we’ve been receiving for a millennia about the health of our Mother Earth, and all of her children. Although generations have come and gone, their actions have lived well beyond them. Each generation is handed the inheritance of those who came before.
Beneath the state of the environment is insight into the mindset of humanity. Actions speak louder than words, as they say. When we see humans treating their environment with disrespect, taking for granted the precious life and resources that were cared for and carefully left for them by the generation before, we see the complete disregard for the world left behind for our children. When we see humans categorizing and discarding one another, we see the lack of respect for humanity as a precious part of creation. What Hummingbird is showing us is that we are creating an environment that disrupts harmony and the very frequency that supports life, and that life is much more fragile than is perceived. If our joy cannot survive, we cannot feed our spirits. If we crush our own spirits, we continue the downward spiral, chasing ‘escape,’ and ‘addiction.’ The result is the pursuit of momentary pleasures, which cause more harm to us, in an attempt to find the joy we can no longer extract from life.
To tie these two cards together- this year, and all years to come is an opportunity to see the intricacies and connections between all creation here on Earth. It is a time to stop ‘believing,’ and know that we cannot continue to operate as if everything is separate, and the destructive consequences will ultimately result in complete annihilation of a world we once knew- the one that was in perfect harmony and blessed us with all we needed to sustain life. We cannot pick and choose one species, one tribe, or one land, discarding all others as unnecessary, any more than we can choose to eliminate one organ from the body and assume no harm.
