Are you ready for the Truth?

I can tell you from personal experience, the ‘truth-teller’ is, by far, the most unpopular person in any room. Personally, I think that is tragic. I also think the reason behind it has more to do with ego than with the ability to recognize the truth.

Humans spend all their time building ideologies, cultures, subcultures and creating theories that are not part of reality until they are willed, weaved, and ultimately accepted into it. We find our own selves fascinating and inventive. We celebrate creativity…until someone else comes along who is more creative, more fascinating and more inventive than ourselves. And here is where the ego takes over.

If you’re not looking you don’t see it, but the modern world with all its technology, has not only glorified the self, it’s chipped away and in some cases cut out the relevance of a Creator, save ourselves. We have reinvented God in the form of science, which once again, is a matter of ego more than anything else. How dare there be anything WE cannot explain, or control? We cannot handle the thought that there is a higher power that, not only has more power, more wisdom, or a better understanding of the entirety of the universe, it has jurisdiction. The truth is, my friends, Humans have a limitations. We are not all-powerful, and that creates a problem for the Ego.

As these tiny bits and pieces of ‘self-importance,’ have become ingrained in our life via advertising, reality television, and the worst offender of them all, the self-help industry, we have quietly and without notice, accepted that each of us individually is the tiny center of our own universes. We’ve slowly moved from a space where the majority of people in a community recognized the health of the community means the health of individual, to being outraged that we should have to sacrifice any whim for the good of the whole.

But why is this a problem? Shouldn’t humans feel empowered, and make choices that are right for themselves? Are we not given free-will to do as we wish?

This is a slippery slope. I write this to address, not to criticize, the effect this culture has on the collective of humanity. While I’m not against someone who wishes to make choices based on self-interest or achieving a particular set of goals, I am intensely aware of the void that is left where there used to be an awareness of the impact our choices had on each other.

Humanity has undoubtedly inflicted terrible things on itself, and let me point out, specifically, through its free will and choice. The more the culture has shifted toward the attitude of ‘do what thou wilt,’ the more we are collectively suffering. Our choices and free will do not create the world- that was gifted to us. They create the state of being we experience while incarnated as human beings.

Before the advent of the internet, and all the many forms of technology we enjoy in a first-world country, we had more of a sense of physical connection. After all, we are physical beings, and this is a part of the human experience. As we became more connected to technology, we became less connected to one another. We find it easy to compartmentalize things based on our need, instead of seeking out genuine connection. We think by having relationships where we get our various needs met piecemeal, we have it all. So why are we more depressed, anxious and lonely than we have ever been before? Aren’t we getting what we want?

Before society had formal government, we had tradition and community. Community wasn’t consciously created, nor did it have to be, as it’s a foundational component of human nature to create meaningful bonds. Somewhere in that freewill process, there were people who became ego-centric, and they poisoned the very foundation of our traditions with their need to be powerful. They hurt others, and instead of recognizing that the hurt inflicted was the result of individual choices, we’ve decided to throw away the baby with the bathwater. Ego loves blame. Pointing the finger, of course, gives us a feeling of power and control. Being a victim allows us to be free of that blame. These concepts have been used over and over by humans who are aware of their impact to direct and corral. In short, the more freewill choices we make in our own self-interest, the more havoc we wreak on the collective.

As I’ve said many times- I’m not here to direct you, I’m here to affect you. My aim is always to deliver the messages I receive, with the hopes that you will be inspired to entertain new possibilities or gain some insights that will allow you to move in new directions when they feel appropriate. Living our lives sometimes feels like groundhog day, and we forget that there are so many possible choices we can make other than the ones we’ve stuck to, because they feel safe. After all, it is the power of our choices that shapes our human experience, and that experience is shared with all of humanity. If we can make choices that will create harmony for all over indulging our own ego, we should consider them.
